Genoa prepares to welcome Europe’s fencing elite

The 2025 Senior European Fencing Championships were officially presented at BIT in Milan, presenting Genoa  as the host of one of the most prestigious events on the European fencing calendar. The championships will bring together over 400 athletes from approximately 46 countries, with an estimated 13,000 people—including athletes, coaches, officials, and fans—expected to gather in Genoa during the competition period.

The presentation emphasized the impact of the event, not only in terms of high-level competition but also as an opportunity to foster engagement within the European fencing community. Italian Fencing Federation President Luigi Mazzone underlined the significance of hosting the event in a city with a strong sporting tradition: “The Senior European Championships in Genoa will be a true celebration of our sport, uniting the best fencers from across Europe in a city that is passionate about fencing. It is not only a high-level competition but also a moment to strengthen the bonds within our fencing community and to promote the values of excellence, respect, and fair play that define our sport.”

With Genoa preparing to welcome a large international delegation, the championships are expected to create a vibrant and engaging atmosphere, further enhancing the visibility of fencing on a continental scale. The European Fencing Confederation (EFC) continues to strengthen its presence across Europe through high-level events, and the Senior European Championships remain a flagship tournament, showcasing the highest standards of the sport.

EFC President Pascal Tesch expressed great confidence as the event approaches: “Italy is a country where fencing holds a significant place. The Italian Federation is a crucial strategic partner in strengthening European fencing. Genoa will provide an excellent opportunity to showcase our magnificent sport to the world. I am aware that President Mazzone and his entire team are working tirelessly to ensure the event's success, which is very reassuring.”

As the countdown to June progresses, excitement continues to build for what promises to be an unforgettable edition of the championships, bringing together the finest fencers from across Europe in an event that goes beyond competition to celebrate the essence of the sport.
